Performance Nutrition and Body Composition Laboratory
About Our Lab
In the Performance Nutrition and Body Composition Laboratory, we help individuals better understand their bodies, equipping them to make healthy lifestyle improvements. We assess body composition and resting metabolic rate, offering follow-up appointments to measure progress. Faculty in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition oversee the lab with graduate and undergraduate students assisting with research studies and client testing. The lab offers state-of-the-art, research-grade body composition and resting energy expenditure testing. We have several ongoing research studies and also invite those in the community to take advantage of the BodPod and Quark RMR testing (fees associated, UK employee and student discounts).

Frequently Asked Questions
We meet with anyone who wishes to schedule an appointment. We do not accept insurance at this time. UK employees and students receive a discounted rate.
To best answer this, consider scheduling a Quark Resting Metabolic Rate test. This will allow us to accurately measure your metabolism and determine how many calories you are burning at rest. From there, we can calculate how many calories you should be eating to maintain, lose, or gain weight, and you can work with one of our research team members to track your changes.
To best answer this, consider scheduling a BodPod test. The five-minute test will allow us to assess your current body composition and compare it to others your age. For a reduced price, you can schedule follow-up sessions to see if you are making progress on your goals.
We have research team members who oversee all services in the laboratory. We also believe in providing our students with experiential learning opportunities. Some of our services, including BodPod testing and RMR assessment, may be completed by graduate students. All individuals completing services provided through our laboratory are fully trained.
